LOCAL ISSUES, Sogdiana. Circa 7th-8th century. Cash (Bronze, 23 mm, 2.21 g, 2 h), Fergana. Royal couple facing busts with their heads slightly turned towards each other, within circle of pellets. Rev. Monogram consisting of two runic characters, surrounded by a carelessly engraved legend containing the words ‘MRWY’, i.e. ‘xūβ’ (‘lord’ in Sogdian) and ‘γʾttwnh’, i.e. ‘xātūn’ (‘khatun’ in Sogdian). Smirnova 1482. Very rare. Rough surfaces, otherwise, very fine.
